CIARA DOVE
Ciara was born and raised in Passaic, New Jersey and is a 1999 graduate of Eastside High School. She is number three of six born on her mother’s side, and one of many siblings on her father’s side. In her spare time, Ciara loves traveling, writing, dancing, reading, and enjoying a great laugh.
Ciara was first inspired to write poetry in 1995, by her literature teacher, who said she had great writing skills when speaking from a classical writer’s point of view. This empowerment stayed with her and encouraged her to keep the passion of writing and hone her prose. While she did take a hiatus from writing, in 2006 a fire relit in her that caused her to write over 300 poems.
Ciara thought it best to keep a diary of life encounters in the form of poetry. She has always felt there is power in the written word that lets people know that they are not alone. She also feels that some people relate better to poetic expression. This gave Ciara the idea to help readers, and new poets, see the process of poetry and understand that it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. By allowing the world to see her scratches, doodling and flaws in her raw writing, she hopes to aid the reader in seeing their own progress through the process. Ciara’s idea of great poetry is seeing perfection in imperfections.
Ciara is married with two children, and currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina.
